Flutes from the Other Side was originally written in honor of Halloween for my student ensemble Pam's Pipers. The title is a pun. During the piece, the flutists turn their flues to the other side and play 'backwards'. This way the tone becomes more airy and eerie sounding- rather ghostly too especially when they hum into the flutes simultaneously. Nevermind my sense of humor. The tempo is marked Grave (very slow). At the end of piece, the player is directed to Return to the Grave (I love terrible puns) so you can get a sense of Halloween and Pam's dark yet playful (another pun) humor ...plus Rod Serling's wonderfully eerie & prophetic sense of humor too. All for the same price.
