Upcoming Cuban Premiere

How many of us have been to Cuba?

In November, I will be able to include myself. And my husband. We will be going to Havana to hear a performance of music I wrote for the wonderful trio Eight Strings and a Whistle. The music Third Eye and the Inward Journey (Two Journeys) was well-received in New York and elsewhere in the US. It will be interesting to experience the audience’s reaction in Cuba, as well as hear other contemporary music juxtaposed with this two-part piece.

The venues for this Festival de Musica Contemporanea de La Habana will include ISA (University) and the gorgeous Cervantes HalI. I’m looking forward to hearing a variety of styles on other days during the festival. Maybe, on the date my music is performed, the theme will be Classical music or American or Western music. I don’t know, but my imagination raises questions such as will there be a day devoted to classical music of America? Or all Western countries? South American or South African or Asian countries?

I am seriously hoping to hear some Cuban bands play Timba, charanga, conga…at any venue in or around Habana. I cannot wait to go!!

Maybe I’ll see you there…
